About Us

Eat Streets celebrates the best of Sydney’s Restaurants by giving you an easy way to find a great dining experience. Whether you’re organising for a whole group of people or you are making plans for a  romantic dinner for two, Eat Streets can help you!

Eat Streets is the latest site from Universal Magazines, the publishers of the Sydney Eats restaurant guide which began life as Cheap Eats in 1981, making it Sydney’s oldest restaurant guide. And while we’ve changed our name we haven’t given up on the best value eating around. If you know the book, you’ll know it's divided into two sections: Cheap Eats and Flash Eats. We cover the waterfront, from Faheem’s Fast Food in Enmore  to Quay at East Circular Quay. If it’s good, it’s in.

Visitors to our site can leave comments about restaurants they have been to which means you can read all about the experiences of others before leaving home. You can also leave comments about restaurants you have been to, so that other people can learn from your experience.

Another great way that you can research before you make a booking, is by reading the reviews of our professional food critics. A large number of the restaurants you will see listed on Eat Streets have been reviewed by our professionals. Eat Streets is the only web based restaurant guide that gives you real reviews written by reviewers who visit the restaurant anonymously and pay for their meals. Since you have the opportunity to make your own comment, after reading the if you don’t agree or want to make your own comment, go right ahead.

Eat Streets ranks restaurants by price using the $ as a symbol. Here’s how it works:

$        entrée & main for under $25
$$        entrée & main for under $45
$$$        entrée & main for under $55
$$$$        entrée & main for under $65
$$$$$        entrée & main from $65 up.

As it rolls out, Eat Streets will cover restaurants in every capital city. But right now, it covers Sydney, Canberra, The Blue Mountains and the Central Coast.

You’ll find features unique to this site (for how long depends on how quickly other sites can copy us!)

Like Restaurant Doctor, an interactive service where our reviewers help you find a restaurant for a special occasion.

Like On Plates Now where we tell you what food’s in season where you live – and what chefs are doing with it.

Like Book Reviews of all the books we love – and maybe even a few we hate.

Like a monthly column Food News with restaurant news, gossip and quirky items for foodlovers all over.

But the main game is a celebration of the very best restaurants and cafes in the areas we cover. And Sydney eats reviewers don’t just eat around the inner city. We go wherever the food is good  - from Alexandria to Woolloomooloo via Dural, Terrey Hills, Russel Lea and Panania. If it’s good – we’re there.

As well as prices, we give information on opening hours, licensed or byo, wheelchair access and a lot more.

So welcome to Eat Streets. We’re glad you found us. And so will you be. We’ll be growing, improving and adding more features as we do.

Happy eating.
