And getting away from those cocky Italians for a while, drop in at Emmilou Tapas Cocktail Lounge (413 Bourke Street Surry Hills, Ph 9360 6991) for an Argentinean wine dinner with Argentinean nosh, such as king crab croquettas, carne asado with chimmichurri and spicy tomato salsa and a very impressive-sounding list of wines that I know nothing about. Good reason to go: Antonio Morescalchi from Altos Las Hormigas winery will be there to reveal all. At $77, this sounds like really good value — and the restaurant suggests you leave the car at home. A good sign.
