Rising stars
You’re going to hear a lot more about Tomislav Martinovic of Tomislav (2/13 Kirketon Road Darlinghurst, Ph 9356 4535) and you’ve probably already winkled out Chris The’s scrumptious cakes and pastries at Black Star Pastry (277 Australia Street Newtown, Ph 9557 8656). Tomislav, as everyone constantly reminds us, worked at Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck and Chris, as most people have forgotten, comes with a pretty solid pastry chef CV as well, including stints at Victoire and Quay. They’re getting together to put on a seven-course meal with four being desserts (I can hear the squeals of delight) and then some savoury ones — topsy turvy. It’s called Just Desserts and it’s on two nights, October 19 and 20, $125 food alone, $175 with matching wines. It’s at Tomislav and you’d better book fast on the number above.
