Slow lamb

October 2010

I recently went to (and, disclosure, helped organise) a Slow Food Sydney dinner at Perama (88 Audley Street Petersham, Ph 9569 7534), which introduced stranger to stranger and even included a bit of old-fashioned love in the list of ingredients. It was a celebration of spring lamb and we invited Vince Heffernan of Moorlands Biodynamic Lamb to speak, and chef/owner David Perama got his dad George to cook Vince’s lambs on a spit and bring in his olives and pickled green tomatoes, and his mum to make little lamb pies. Eighty of us sat at four long tables with friends and strangers (cop that, Frog philosopher) and Vince spoke to a rapt audience of city folk about how he raised his sheep. David reckons he’s never tasted lamb like it. We agreed. All for $80 a head, including wine. Slow Sydney will be doing more events like this next year. Check out the website
