Stayers
I also had a meal at Orso during February — a pleasant place that has been on the waterfront at The Spit (79 Parriwi Road, Ph 9968 3555) for a good 10 years in the hands of owner Silvio Gmur (ex l’Incontro in North Sydney) and now with young chef Coop Woodstone (ex-The Storrier, Bistro Marlo). It has a gorgeous view — any closer to the water and you’d be wet — an attractive and relaxed room and Coop’s interesting food, including his oven-roasted omento-wrapped ocean trout (omento? Italian for caul or crepinette), all of which made for a pleasant afternoon. It got me thinking that Sydney is so well-served for restaurants now that I have never been to this professional and enjoyable place in all my years of eating out. How many more are there? Too many restaurants, too little time.
