What’s new?
There have been an awful lot of openings — far too many to cover to be honest — but a couple worth mentioning. A bar that isn’t in a laneway (novel) but on the Great Gay Way, Gotham (35 Oxford Street Darlinghurst Ph 9283 1891 www.gotham.net.au), flung open its door last month and is serving wine, beer and cocktails and little plates of clever food (notice I didn’t say tapas?) to lots of shiny people with very good teeth. The interior looks smart and was designed by architects Squillace Nicholas. It’s on my list. And then there’s Duke Bistro (Level 1/63 Flinders Street Darlinghurst upstairs from the Flinders Hotel). The food sounds promising with Kylie Javier (ex Tetsuya’s and Bentley Bar) running the kitchen, which will be turning out dishes, according to the press release, full of “culinary humour and irony”, which probably also taste good. Another one for the list.
