What do they know?
We haven’t read the entire report from the Journal of Wine Economics Vol 3, No 2 (go to www.wine-economics.org/journal if you want to), but an article by one Robert J Hodgson analyses the “reliability of wine judges at a major Californian wine fair”. As Mr Hodgson judged it, 90 per cent of the judges at the fair were unable to replicate the results they’d given previously when faced with a blind sample of a wine they’d already judged — 80 per cent of them scored the same wine ranging from gold to nothing. Hah! Just drink and enjoy.
