June 2008

With the start of winter and its coughs and colds it's a good thing citrus is so cheap and plentiful.

Still plenty of good mandarins around but make the most of it - they're on the way out. Before they go, you could try Warren Turnbull's mandarin sorbet at Assiette, which he serves alongside a citrus terrine with rhubarb and a sauternes mousse.

Moving away from citrus, we're still seeing crisp Granny Smiths and Fuji apples. Keep an eye out for Braeburns as well.

If it's cooked apples you're after, try the legendary crepe normande at Chez Pascal in Sans Souci. And for extra appley goodness, it's flamed in apple brandy.
