Cuisine: Italian

The punters come here for Italian food the owner claims is the “best in Sydney by far”. A big call, that. We can at least attest to the menu’s good quality and variety of Italian staples, with a few more adventurous dishes. Gamberoni and lemon salt-and-pepper squid $28.90 is one — balance it with a classic such as napoletana pizza $14.50 on a soft, thin base. The namesake portobello pizza $18.90 is not quite traditional but sometimes just what you feel like: topped with ham, mushroom, olives, cabanossi, pepperoni and pineapple. The decor’s not much — bare walls and budget furnishings — but that adds to the family-friendly atmosphere. It can get loud on busy nights but that comes with the territory when eating pizza and drinking wine.
