HERITAGE BELGIAN BEER CAFE
Cuisine: Belgian
The wood panelling in this high-ceilinged alehouse was imported from Belgium and so are nearly 50 beers, categorised into draughts, artisan beers, beers made by monks (Trappist) and beers from the Timmermans brewery. Get a Kwak $13.20, served in a fancy glass and wooden bracket, and nibble on some pork belly bites $9.90. Belgian cuisine borrows from France and Germany and for some reason Belgians enjoy their “steak” (that is, mince meat) raw, such as with the filet Americain $18. Might be a good idea to stick with something light, like the mussels $28.90, which come in a variety of broths and are half price for lunch on Wednesday; or try a beer-infused dish such as Flemish beef stew $26.50 cooked in Stella Artois. Belgian waffles $13.50 go without saying.
